You may have found yourself making the following statements, asking the same questions:
- I desire a deeper relationship and intimacy with God. How do I get there?
- I feel increasingly dry in my spiritual life lately. How or when will the desert stop?
- I am trying to discover God’s will & His direction in my life. How do I hear from Him?
- I want to feel like the activities I do come from a full heart. How does that happen?
If you can resonate with one or many of those statements and questions, then you are on the right path. It may not feel it, but you are. For a long time, I was one who knew so much about God but lacked deep intimacy with Him.
I came to realize this was because my mind‘s view of God had grown too small. My heart‘s understanding of working for God was distorted. And I had never truly experienced the depth of grace that He wanted to pour into my life. However, when the lavish grace of God finally became a reality to me, my soul was truly free! I was free in a way I had never understood before. And yet my freedom compelled me to live higher, nobler, truer than ever before.
One of the main components leading up to this understanding was my participation in spiritual direction with a trusted friend and spiritual director. Since then, I have committed myself to learning this art and becoming a spiritual director myself.
This personal journey has been one full of questions, conversations, study, and great reading. I hope to be as much a help to othersas people in this field have been to me.
