DAY 81: Close!, New Bike!, and Passion!

2009
07.11

07/11/09:  211.8

Ugh… I have tried hard to get to 210 by Sunday.  As there are no scales in hotel rooms so I’m not sure if I’ll get the goal, but I know for sure that I will lose a pound or two in fluid during my ride.  That counts right? Either way, it’s been a long hard 81 days to lose 21 pounds and get into great shape.  I can honestly say that I am at my strongest and best shape ever.

I am looking forward to the LIVESTRONG Challenge in San Jose.  Thanks to all who aided my fundraising efforts!  As of right now I’m just over $300 raised for this event.  What a humbling moment it’s going to be tomorrow to see 100s of cancer sufferers and survivors cheering us on.

Lawrence and I are heading down in about an hour to register and check out the LIVESTRONG exhibition booths.  The 100-mile ride will begin bright and early tomorrow morning at 7:30 am.  Lawrence and I will be twittering updates (mileage, pics, and how good {or bad… ha ha} we feel!  Here is a look at the map (enjoy the view of mile 68-71.  Metcalf road is a 7% grade for near 3 miles climbing 1100 feet).

The exciting news is that I made a decision this week to upgrade from the beginner bike to quite a bit past beginner bike.  I bought a new 2007 Trek Madone 5.0 (full ULTEGRA TRIPLE for those who speak bike) from Cycle Masters in Turlock (great shop!).  So, yes my SCOTT is currently on Craigslist.  It’s been a great bike and I it will be hard to let go… until I see the cash (lol!).

I can’t even explain how much health, fun, and passion have been wrapped up in this hobby!  My Lord is my treasure and He has given me great treasures in my family and ministry.  And I love how He has allowed me to find such pleasure in cycling!  I often feel like Eric Liddell from Chariots of Fire when he said, “When I run, I feel His {God’s} pleasure.”  Of course you have to change the word run to ride because when I run I feel God’s pain… ha ha!

Well, I’ve got to finish packing.  Tune into Twitter updates tomorrow to hear how we are doing!

** And as a side note about weightloss… I weigh 236 cycle-dressed and on the bike.  That is how much I weighed dressed (without a bike) for my last Century in April.  That makes me happy!

** STAY TUNED:  18-month mileage update (it will shock you… it did me) as well a report on my Century coming on Monday.
