DAY 67: Progress!

2009
06.25

06/25/09:  214.6

Getting closer and closer each day.  Tomorrow I go in for my first massage ever.  I hope they actually rub a couple pounds away too.  (Ha Ha… but it’s kind of gross if you really think about it!)

DAY 64: Back to the Grind

2009
06.22

06/22/09:  216.2

Well with the ride last week, I didn’t lose all that much.  Which may sound odd at first, but you end up eating a lot.  You eat a lot because you’re working hard and hungry, but also because you don’t want to crash physically while pedaling! It probably didn’t help at all that the two days after I got back were complete cheating, off-the-wagon days.  I went to spin this morning so I’m back in the rhythm.  I just need to watch my intake.

However, 216.2 is the lightest I’ve weighed since 2003 (ugh, I know).  That and I would have to say that I’m at the peak of my physical condition too.  Besides that I’ve lost about and 1 1/2 around my waist… no to shabby.

64 days in, almost 17 pounds gone, and a whole lot of strengthening and toning going on.  Have to keep it honest on the eating if I’m going to ride my way back to 205 by July 12th.  Slowly getting there.

TOURING: The Finale!

TODAY’S RIDE STATS | 56 MILES | STAGE: EASY

We made it!  The last leg went by fast… Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz.  We arrived pretty early in the AM, got lunch, met Scott Estes (who was nice enough to come and pick us up!) and then we drove home.  Andy Steelman has to be at a wedding rehearsal tonight– crazy I know!

What a great trip.  So many stories, so many that won’t get told; ha ha!  We rode a grand total of:

  • Miles: 360
  • Days: 6
  • Time: 27 + hours in the saddle!

It’s been one great and tiring adventure for the STUTZ Cycling Tours, Inc. (which is not an official Inc. at all, but we are hoping for a government bailout!).  Tour of California, part one is finished.  Someday the Tour, part 2 will go from Santa Cruz to San Diego!

For more stories, just ask us…  I’m going to take a big nap!

TODAY’S RIDE STATS | 59 MILES | STAGE: DIFFICULT

Samuel P. Taylor State Park to Half Moon Bay State Beach

Wow!  Riding through San Francisco was as about as stressful (if not more) than driving through it!  What a tough ride; windy on that bridge too!  We are so tired!  We were all glad for the campground tonight!  It’s a bit chilly here and I’m actually enjoying it.  Tomorrow is our last leg… and we just might be on our last leg physically too (lol!).

TODAY’S RIDE STATS | 42 MILES | STAGE: EASY

Imagine us here… and it’ll be like you’re with us; except for you haven’t pedaled all that much or slept on hard ground– ha ha!

Today was both a leisure pace and ride.  Tomorrow is quite a stretch and a bit of site-seeing, leg resting, and napping was in order!  Can’t believe we are more than half way through this trip already.

TODAY’S RIDE STATS | 65 MILES | STAGE: MEDIUM

Well morning came early… hard to hide from the sun and the noises of a somewhat restless campground.  Today our goal was to ride from Manchester State Beach to Bodega Dunes State Beach.  The ride was pretty tough, lots of rolling hills.  The fatigue of a few days riding is starting to set in a bit.

It’s been a such a great trip so far; can’t type it all now!  We already have quite a few good stories to tell.

TODAY’S RIDE STATS | 80 MILES |  STAGE: MEDIUM

We groggily got out of bed this morning, heated up some oatmeal, packed up and headed out on the longest stage of our trip; Standish Hickey SRA to Manchester State Beach.  And judging by the sign above, you’d think we shouldn’t have stopped… and I thought riding on HWY 1 was going to be bad — lol!

It was a good long ride… beautiful sites… bunch of laughs… ready to chill and eat some good food and sleep!

TODAY’S RIDE STATS | 48 MILES | STAGE: DIFFICULT

We left Woett at about 2 pm and pedaled through the Redwoods to the Standish Hickey State Recreation Area.  We didn’t see the photo above, but we did see some great sites.

It was a pretty ride, but also pretty tough.  You can definitely tell the weight on your bike– on the steep hills!  Oh, and my weight this morning, if you’ve been following, was 217.8.  I figure I’ll burn some of that this week!

I’m glad it didn’t rain (it was forecasted).  We are staying at a Hiker-biker site at the campground… primitive, but not too bad.  All I care is that there are showers… 25 cents for 5 minutes (so a lot of quarters are getting used).  The tour continues tomorrow bright and early.

The Big Trip!

I can’t believe it, but it’s here.  The big trip has finally arrived!  This has been about 6 months in the making and planning.  I’ve described it this way:

From the Northern Red Woods of Humboldt County to the Santa Cruz Surf, we will pedal; and by we I mean Andrew Oller, Andy Steelman, and myself.

The trip begins June 14 with a drive to Burlington, CA (thanks Michelle). We will then take a six day, 350+ mile trip down the coast; Weott, CA to Santa Cruz.

We leave tomorrow morning bright and early to drive to Weott, CA (It’s about a five hour drive- thank you Michelle … and the Boone’s for watching my kiddos).  We’ll then hop on our bikes and begin the first leg of the trip.  It’s a pretty difficult stretch, but at least we will have great landscape and shade as we trek through the beautiful Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

I’m a bit nervous, anxious, and excited at the same time (pray for our safety on HWY 1 if you think about it!).  It’s going to be a blast!  This could be the first of many STUTZ CYCLING Tours… you never know.

You can keep up with us via videos and pics from the trip by following the links below:

DAY 53: Tour De Modexico

2009
06.11

06/11/09:  217.4

ugh… getting to glad about what’s lost that I’ve taken my eyes off the goal (again).  It probably doesn’t help all the Mexican food I’ve been inhaling either; especially from Tour De Modexico!

This is becoming a difficult task.  But I’m going to get there!  Back on track today for sure!
