phrases on the brain…

Morgan Territory Road in Livermore, CA

I heard a funny statement this morning while at spin class.  It went something like this:  “This hill steep… steep enough to make you mumble!”

For some of you, you might be thinking, “How do you get a hill in spin class?”  The answer is simple, turn the crank!  There is plenty of resistance to simulate a hill.

But the funny part of the statement was that you could tell Don (the spin instructor) is a cyclist.  Because there are hills out there that make you mumble, even words you shouldn’t.  One such hill is the crazy grade of Morgan Territory Road in Livermore, CA.  I rode that last fall for fun… and it was insane.

Oddly enough, the mumble line has been stuck in my head today.

On a higher plane (not steeper though, lol!), I have also had the following phrases from scripture on my brain.

  • For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross…”  Hebrew 12:2.  It was with a sense of glory and honor that He went to Calvary to bear our sins, shed His blood (1 Peter 1:18-21), and reconciled us to the Father!  Unbelievable… what is it that I take joy in.

and…

  • “Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” John 17:5. Before dust, stars, mountains, sunrises, Jesus was glorified.  Before day, night, humans and praises to heaven, Jesus was glorified.  And here Jesus is asking the Father to glorify Him to the glory he had before we even showed up!  That’s just blowing my mind!

Anything stuck in your brain lately?

New Year’s ReVolution?

2009
03.22

I have set out this year with a certain amount of gumption to keep the New Year’s Resolutions that I set way back in December.  I know that may sound Oprah cheesy, but I guess I’d like to think of it as actually letting my ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ in the disciplines I set for myself.

I found this picture online and maybe it’s right… resolutions if embraced as life changing or enhancing disciplines can be truly revolutionary.  I hope and pray that my final re

solution (revolutionary change) on my list will be the one that brings me into greater trust and relationship with Christ!  That relationship I know will bring transformation in me… and that newness will hopefully overflow into the lives of others.

I don’t know what your list was or if it got tossed.  But maybe pull it out or decide to re-embrace it!  It just might be revolutionary!

Here is a list of my res(v)olutions:

  • Learn to cook (more than Mac-n-Cheese).  This has been a fun one.  In fact, take a look at the menu the Stutz Cafe has generated lately.  It’s been fun, and tasty!
  • Ride down the Coast of CA from Eureka to Monterrey.  I’m getting closer to this one everyday.  Looks like June is the target month.  And between now and then I’ll complete 2 centuries (one in February and one in April).
  • Do not gain weight… in fact losing a bit would be excellent!  Sticking to that!  It has been tough with the cooking, but the cycling sure helps… lol!
  • Stick to my Rule of Life.  This has been the hardest– and doesn’t that make sense because it’s the most powerful!  I know that the enemy would want nothing more than to see me become a cycling cook without renewed and continual experiences with God the Father!  He would want nothing more than for me to not grow in the grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (II Peter 3:18).  But I’m not giving up!  The Holy Spirit Empowers!  The Father loves me!  And the Son Shepherds me!  It’s awesome… ask me about it sometime!

Revolution, Reformation, and Transformation await!
